about

Houndstooth share two more remixes of unreleased tracks from Copenhagen’s flash of energy, DJ and producer Anastasia Kristensen, with Danish techno titan Ctrls and Brooklyn’s ballroom scene darling, quest?onmarq stepping up for rework duties. Following the recent, acclaimed remix of ‘Voice Within’ from Galway’s party-starter KETTAMA, this is the second hint towards an incredibly exciting project on which Anastasia is still yet to shed light.

Taking ‘Volshebno’ to new dimensions, Anastasia’s close friend and Token Records mainstay Ctrls delivers a wigged out, acid-tinged electro workout. Spliced with a mesmerising, dreamy breakdown and a whomping bassline, this is fast-paced euphoria at its finest.

Describing his remix, Ctrls says,

“Anastasia's dramatic breakbeat concept as seen through a plastic jungle techno lens”

------------------------------------------

One of NYC’s most prolific producers of the moment, quest?onmarq’ reimagines ‘Volshebno Stretched’, into a pacey, enigmatic ride through urgent, ground-shaking breaks and thundering bass.

Channelling Baltimore club energy, fused with jungle and techno, the remix conjures up heady memories of smoke-filled, early hours club floors.

Speaking on the remix, quest?onmarq says,

“Drawn in by curiosity to translate the title track, I learned that Волшебно is Russian for ‘magical’. I instantly recalled the moment I was first magically aligned with Anastasia when we shared a bill at CTM 2019 in Berlin. The night was a curation of unique voices within the aether of adventurous music. And in exploring the club, I was enthralled by AK’s rambunctious spirit and energy behind the decks as she moved along with the music— faintly visible through the haze and beyond the seemingly synchronized revellers in sway. This was simply an enchanted night I cannot forget. My interpretation is a snapshot of those memorable, magical moments — being bound to the dancefloor in ecstatic bliss.”

quest?onmarq cut their teeth in Brooklyn’s ballroom scene, regularly vogueing to clashes of Baltimore club and ballroom beats before going on to DJ in these spaces. Recently turning out mixes for FACT and Discwoman, to name but a few, pre-pandemic the artist was bringing their thunderous and exhilarating hi-nrg DJ sets to the most esteemed and cutting-edge spots in the world. From Berlin’s Berghain/Panorama Bar at CTM Festival, to South-London’s enigmatic, legendary Rye Wax basement, a host of secret warehouse raves and underground dance floors through to art venues, including a recent performance residency at Berlin’s Night Embassy; their expansive influences, raw energy and legendary 4 deck DJ sets, have truly set them apart from the crowd.

Multifaceted sound artist Ctrls has been immersed in club music for most of his life. A producer, performer, engineer and a globally renowned DJ, his classy take on techno has been finessed throughout the journey. Impossible to pigeonhole, Ctrls has explored many genres under various monikers - drum'n'bass under Pyro, house as 2400 Operator, and industrial leaning sounds as Northern Structures.

Moscow-born, Denmark-raised DJ and producer Anastasia Kristensen is a flash of energy. A skilled selector and producer with an encyclopaedic knowledge of music far beyond her years, Anastasia has rapidly garnered acclaim as one of the world’s most exciting DJs in dance music. An artist bringing colour and energy into the darker world of techno, Anastasia has found fans from warehouse raves to huge festival stages across the world.

The DJ Mag cover-star has long garnered unwavering support from top-tier tastemakers across music, style, culture including Dazed, Resident Advisor, FACT, Crack Magazine, Boiler Room, NTS and more. An artist driven by connecting communities, elevating other artists and acting as a force for good, in 2020 Anastasia curated and released a charity compilation Rewire and Acquire featuring 19 global artists from far-flung corners of the world, with all proceeds going to women’s rights charity Equality Now. With her infectious, unstoppable energy and game-changing new projects on the way, 2021 is set to be another exciting year as Anastasia Kristensen reaches new heights.
